The Department of Animal Biology conducts theoretical and applied research in the areas of:

• behavioral ecology,
• population and community biology,
• molecular evolution,
• population genetics, and
• phylogenetic systematics.

Current research involves a wide range of organisms, from protozoans through mammals.
